What these terms cover, and what they do not

Burnside Steps is two things. The software is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3, and that licence is the only thing governing your use of it. These terms add no conditions to the software, and could not: the AGPL does not allow it.

What these terms cover is this website, the hosted service, and anything you buy from us.

The hosted service

The free hosted tier is real. Sign in and you are running, with up to three projects and every destination included. Screenshots are kept for 90 days and the widget carries a small badge.

Paid hosting is $99 a year, or $12 a month. You can manage or cancel it any time from the dashboard, which hands you over to Stripe to do it. Cancelling stops the next renewal.

The Pro licence

$79, once. It covers every version, forever. No renewal, no subscription, no update window, no maintenance fee. Buy it today and it still works on a release we ship in five years.

Now the part most companies leave out. The source is AGPL, so you can read the licence check, and you can remove it. We are not going to pretend otherwise and we have not built anything to stop you. Buying Pro is how a small project stays funded and keeps shipping. If the thing is earning you money, pay for it.

Refunds

Thirty days, no questions, on both the subscription and the licence. Email support@burnsidesteps.com and we refund you.

One honest note about the licence: refunding it does not switch your key off. We have no way to reach into your relay and no interest in building one. We are trusting you to stop using Pro if you asked for your money back.

What we promise, and what we do not

We do not promise uptime. There is no service level agreement. The hosted service runs on Cloudflare and is generally very reliable, but if it is down we owe you nothing beyond what this section says. If that is not good enough for what you are building, host it yourself. That is the entire point of the open source tier: you do not have to depend on us.

The software and the service are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind, so far as the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

What we ask of you

Do not use the hosted service to collect feedback on sites you do not control, to send us illegal content, or to deliberately overload the service. We can suspend an account doing any of those. We would rather email you first, and normally will.

Ending it

You can stop at any time. Delete your account and we delete your data. We can close an account that breaks the section above, or stop offering the hosted service entirely, in which case we will give you notice and a way to get your data out.

The legal bit

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any dispute goes to the state or federal courts of California.
