Burnside Steps as a Userback alternative
Userback is a good product with more features than this one. If you are looking at alternatives, it is usually for one of three reasons: you want to run the thing on your own infrastructure, you want to stop paying a subscription, or you want to read the code. Those are the three we can help with.
How they compare
| Burnside Steps | Userback | |
|---|---|---|
| Run it on your own infrastructure | Yes | No |
| Read and change the source | Yes, AGPL | No |
| Buy it once, keep it | $79 | Subscription only |
| Dashboard access | One admin password, shared | 5 on Team, unlimited on Business and above |
| People who can send feedback | Unlimited, no account needed | Unlimited, no seat needed |
| Cheapest paid plan, per year | $99 | USD 348 |
| Free tier | Yes: three projects, badge on the widget, screenshots kept ninety days | Free Forever: 2 seats, 2 projects, feedback kept 7 days |

What Userback does better
- A genuinely free tier, not a trial
- No seat cap at all from the Business tier upward
- Session replay, AI insights and a mobile SDK, none of which we have
If any of those is the reason you are shopping, Userback is the better buy and you should take it. Their free plan in particular is a real one, not a trial with a clock on it.
What you get here instead
One Cloudflare Worker, or one Node process, that you can run yourself. Feedback goes from a visitor's browser to your Linear, GitHub or GitLab, and the destination token never leaves your relay. Self-host it and nobody but you ever stores a screenshot, because there is no middle. On hosted we are that middle: ninety days on the free tier, and on Pro until you delete the account; self-hosted, you decide.
The licence is AGPL, so you can read exactly what the widget captures rather than taking our word for it, and you can change it. The Pro key is $79 once and covers every version we ever ship.
If that is not what you are after, Userback is genuinely good and so are the others. Pick the one that fits.
